Run just like the wind. Nearly 100-plus runnerswalkersvolunteers brave Irene to participate in in Run for Faith 4Mile Memorial Run
Posted on Jan 26, 2012 under athletic champion | No CommentPLYMOUTH, MA-¦That spirit was evident inside 100-plus participants-â?runners, walkers and volunteers alike- who endured Tropical Storm Irene to participate inside the first annual Run for Faith, a four-mile run located in memory of Mrs. Romboldi on Sunday, August 28.
“Sure, we would have loved to have stood a perfect day with ideal weather conditions with the 1st year,” said Matthew Romboldi, Faith’s son and the other in the run’s organizers. “In numerous ways, having it with a day this way can make it much more memorable. Mom certainly could have been one of the first ones to volunteer, even being aware what weather forecast would be.”
Faith, or “Marcy” as she was known by her relatives and buddies, had been a teacher, person the Red Hat’s Society, Sweet Adeline’s, and Daughters on the American Revolution. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2008 and passed away 2010. The Run for Faith was created commemorate Faith Romboldi’s life as well as raise money for causes near and dear to her heart: Plymouth Public Library, Children’s Department, Plymouth Elementary Schools, music scholarship grant programs and prevention programs for ovarian cancer. Between sponsorships and entry fees, the Run for Faith raised $22,000 rolling around in its newbie.
The four-mile race loop started at Plimouth Plantation and followed an overwhelming course with scenic views, ending back on the Plantation. Plymouth resident Drew Sorenson was the first runner to cross the finish line, completing the run in 27 minutes, 55 seconds. Heidi Sanders, also of Plymouth, was the initial female finisher. Her time was 31 minutes, 28 seconds.
“The runners and walkers are absolutely to become commended for your effort installed forth under some adverse weather conditions that helps make this primary year race roaring success and to raise funds for causes which will benefit the Plymouth community,” said Craig Valentine Brenner, who served as being a volunteer consultant to the novice run. Brenner is the race director of another new to angling Plymouth road race, the previous Sandwich Road Race.
Added volunteer Steve Dubin, “There would be a real spirit of camaraderie one of many volunteers and runners we weren’t planning to allow storm get in the way with the run regardless of what. And the show continued and it’s really something which those who took part in it is going to remember.”
