Champ Bailey was born on June 22, 1978 in Folkston, Georgia. Although most people know him by the name “Champ” his real name is actually Roland. His mother gave him the nickname early on in life thanks to his many athletic achievements. It is safe to say that she was dead on when thinking that Bailey would be a great athlete in one sport or the next. Since his early playing days he has always been one of the best players on the field.

After a successful high school career Bailey went on to play at the University of Georgia. While playing for Georgia he became known as one of the top defensive players in the entire country. Opposing teams rarely had the chance to throw the ball on Bailey. And if they did it usually ended up as an interception.

In the 1999 NFL Draft the Washington Redskins selected Bailey with the seventh pick in the first round. Although many people felt that this was a bad choice, the Redskins were in much need of an outstanding cover corner.

Before the 2004 season got underway, Bailey was traded to the Denver Broncos. This trade was imminent, and both parties saw it coming long before the trade actually took place. After the trade Bailey signed a seven year contract worth approximately $63 million.

Bailey has been named to the All Pro Team on three occasions, and has also made the Pro Bowl team for the last seven seasons. This has solidified him as quite possibly the best cornerback in the league.

With a high level of athleticism and a good feel for the game, Champ Bailey has always been a great player. It is safe to say that he still has several more great seasons left in the tank. As long as the Broncos have him playing on the defensive side of the ball they have a good chance of winning!

The 411 On Athletic Clubs

The Fitness Clubs Of Spokane

There are many quality options when it comes to a fitness club in the Spokane area. The most important thing in your decision is that you should find the fitness club that gives you the best chance at reaching your fitness goals.

This is not necessarily the fitness club that has the latest innovations in exercise equipment. The fitness equipment is only as good as the whole fitness plan that the club can make for you.

Choosing A Fitness Center

Joining a fitness center is the beginning of getting into shape but there are some things you need to consider when choosing a fitness center.

Lets face it the choices for fitness center memberships are pretty wide. From expensive gyms that offer racquet ball, cocktail lounges, and full spa facilities to the basic gym that has all the equipment you’ll ever need but no frills. Choosing can be bit difficult. Thankfully you tell a lot before you ever buy that membership.

The way to choose a fitness center is based on your fitness goals. What do you want to achieve and how do you achieve that? Consider what it is you want to work on. Do you need free weights? Aerobic classes? Cardio equipment? Look for a gym that can meet your needs. If you aren’t sure what your fitness goals are then you need to meet with a personal trainer.

When you’ve lined up a fitness center that appears to fit you needs pay a visit. If there is more than one than pay a visit to all of them. Learn what equipment they have to offer, what additional services they have, what the hours are. Meet the staff, see what you think of them, and take a tour of the club.

Find out as much information as you can and if you decide to join the fitness center and make sure you ask about:

1. Location and hours. Is the fitness center near your home or work place? Is the facility open during the time period that you plan to exercise? During what times is the facility most crowded?

2. Environment. Will you enjoy spending time in the fitness center? Are the floors, locker rooms, and equipment clean? Is there entertainment available such as televisions or personal music stations?

3. Equipment. Does the fitness center have the equipment you’ want to use? Does the equipment appear to be well maintained and in good shape? Does the facility offer other activities for your health needs or disabilities?

4. Classes. What type of classes does the fitness center offer – how often? when? Do they limit class sizes?

5. Staff. Are the staff that work at the fitness center friendly? Are they trained in CPR and first aid? Are there personal trainers available? What type of qualifications do the staff members have?

6. Amenities. Does the fitness center offer convenient parking, sauna, towels, or child care services?

7. Reputation. What do others say about the fitness center?

8. Cost. How much does membership cost at this fitness center? How do their billing cycles run? What are the opt-out policies? Are any additional fees charged for specific amenities?

The more information you can collect on each fitness center that you are interested in the better able you will be to make the right decision for your personal fitness needs.

It is always nice to find a fitness center that will let you try before you buy. Most of the larger chain facilities make these offers but don’t be afraid to ask at any of the fitness centers if the offer free trial memberships. Visit the fitness center at the same time of day or night that you plan to exercise. This will tell you the availability of the machines, how busy the cardio equipment is and even what the shower facilities look like.

When choosing a fitness center choose the facility that gives you the most value.

If you thought for a moment that 79-year-old Bobby Bowden was ready to retire as head coach of Florida State, forget it, especially after his Siminoles routed Wisconsin 42-13 in the Champs Sports Bowl Saturday (12-27-08).

For Bowden, the victory over Wisconsin was like déjà vu, a big-play offense and a hard-hitting, nasty, opportunistic defense getting all over the Badgers, sending them back into the hole they came from. The Siminoles’ special teams got in the Badgers’ faces.

When Florida State had to punt they had the right player—Graham Gano, the Lou Groza Award winner as the nation’s best kicker. All Gano did was average 48+ yards on 5 punts and place 3 of them inside the 4, including 2 at Wisconsin’s 1-yard line.

Talk about backing your opponent up against the goal line, Gano had just the right touch, earning him the MVP Award. When, if ever, have you hear of a punter getting an MVP Award in a bowl game?

On the defensive side, both Derek Nicholson and Dekoda Watson returned fumbles for touchdowns, Nicholson’s for 75 yards and Watson’s for 51. Talk about excitement.

After both teams failed to score in the 1st quarter, Florida State scored 2 touchdowns in each of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters.

Wisconsin was continually starting out deep in its own territory and never really did get untracked. P. J. Hill managed to gain 140 yards on 15 carries for the Badgers, but quarterback Dustin Sherer completed only 4 of 9 for 55 yards during the first three quarters.

It was an ugly finish for Wisconsin’s season. Early on the Badgers were ranked as high as 9th in the AP Top 25 Poll, but Wisconsin has always been overrated the last few years. The loss left them at 7-6.

The win put Florida State at 9-4, the Siminoles first 9-win season since 2004. Bobby Bowden is used to better, having hit at least 9 wins in 17 of 18 years before tailing off in recent seasons. Many of his key players return next year, giving him no good reason to quit, even at 80.

The Champs Sports Bowl game was Florida State’s NCAA-leading 27th straight bowl game, improving Bowden’s personal bowl game record to 21-10-1. Bowden has 382 career wins, just 1 short of Joe Paterno’s 383 at Penn State, the major college record. Paterno is 82 years young.

Both Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno will likely be carried out of a football stadium on a stretcher when they quit coaching. These guys are icons and extremely competitive. Even though they would both deny it, each would like to go down in history with the most wins ever, and they prove it every year they return to the sideline.
